Terms and acronyms used across Sidelink IMS documents. Hover over any highlighted term on any page for a quick definition, or refer to this page for the full context.

A

ABF — Australian Border Force : The Australian Government agency responsible for customs, immigration, and border protection at Australia's border. In the Sidelink context, ABF administers the licensing and ongoing oversight of Sidelink's 77G Customs Depot at 10 Mayer Place under section 77G of the Customs Act 1901.

C

CCP — Critical Control Point : A step in a HACCP food safety plan at which a control measure can be applied to prevent, eliminate, or reduce a food safety hazard to an acceptable level. Sidelink's CCPs are documented in HB05 and CP07.

CoR — Chain of Responsibility : The legal framework under the HVNL that extends primary safety duties beyond the driver to every party in the transport supply chain who has the ability to influence compliance — including schedulers, loaders, consignors, and managers. Under CoR, Sidelink as a transport company holds duties alongside the driver.

CTU — Cargo Transport Unit : A freight container or vehicle used for the transport of cargo, including road vehicles, intermodal containers, and swap bodies. Relevant to Sidelink's DG, Biosecurity, and Food Safety obligations.

D

DG — Dangerous Goods : Substances or articles that pose a risk to health, safety, property, or the environment during transport. Classified and regulated in Australia under the ADG Code (8th Edition). Sidelink's DG obligations are documented in CP00 and HB03.

HACCP — Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points : A systematic, science-based preventive approach to food safety that identifies physical, chemical, and biological hazards in production processes and establishes critical control points to reduce or eliminate those hazards to acceptable levels. Mandated for Sidelink's food-grade transport operations under CP07 Food Safety Management.

HPFV — High Productivity Freight Vehicle : A vehicle configuration approved under a Performance Based Standards (PBS) assessment or approved NHVR network access condition to operate at higher mass or dimension limits than standard. Sidelink's HPFV operations are covered in HB04 and RP001.

HVNL — Heavy Vehicle National Law : The nationally consistent legislative framework governing heavy vehicles over 4.5 tonnes GVM operating on Australian roads. Administered by the NHVR. Covers mass, dimension, loading, fatigue, and maintenance obligations. Victoria has adopted the HVNL. Sidelink's primary HVNL compliance obligations are documented in CP00.

NHVAS — National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme : A voluntary accreditation scheme administered by the NHVR covering maintenance management, mass management, and fatigue management. Sidelink holds NHVAS accreditation for Maintenance Management, documented in CP06.

NHVR — National Heavy Vehicle Regulator : The national body responsible for administering the HVNL and issuing permits for oversize, overmass, and high productivity freight vehicle operations across Australia.

O

OHS — Occupational Health and Safety : The Victorian legislative framework governing workplace health and safety, established under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic). Victoria retained the OHS name and Act rather than adopting the harmonised Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation used in most other Australian states and territories. Administered by WorkSafe Victoria. Sidelink's OHS obligations are documented in CP00.

OSOM — Oversize Overmass : A vehicle or load that exceeds the standard dimension or mass limits permitted on public roads without a permit. Requires an NHVR permit or approved network access condition to operate. Sidelink's OSOM operations are covered in HB04.

P

PBS — Performance Based Standards : A regulatory framework administered by the NHVR that allows vehicles to operate at higher mass or dimension limits if they can demonstrate through engineering assessment that their performance is equivalent to or better than a reference vehicle.

PCBU — Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking : The primary duty holder under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic). Sidelink Transport Pty Ltd is a PCBU and holds the primary duty of care to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety, and welfare of workers and others affected by its operations.

T

TMS — Transport Management System : Sidelink's primary operational system for managing transport bookings, freight movements, driver assignments, and compliance records. FreightTracker is Sidelink's current TMS.

77G Depot — Customs Depot (section 77G) : A depot licensed under section 77G of the Customs Act 1901 to receive, store, and deal with imported goods under Customs control. Sidelink holds a 77G licence for its depot at 10 Mayer Place, documented in CP05.
